TIPPER OPERATORS in Cheshire and Lancashire have been granted a 10 per cent rates increase by ICI Ltd., as from January I, 1968. This was revealed by Mr. W. H. Bratt, chairman of Bulk Tippers (Cheshire) Ltd., folio-Wing a public inquiry in Manchester on Monday when two applicants were granted licences to carry roadstone for ICI and from which all objections had been withdrawn. Negotiations had been going on for four months, said Mr. Bratt, and were concluded when objections had been lodged to the applications.

At the inquiry, Diamond Industries (Manchester) Ltd., applied for short-term B licences for

10 tippers at present on C licence, and J. H. Farmer Ltd., asked for six tippers to be added to its B licence. Both concerns produced similar letters from ICI in support of their applications. Mr. F. Walker of ICI explained that great difficulty had been met with in obtaining tippers for carrying roadstone from Buxton quarries to road construction sites in Lancashire, and Cheshire.

The company secretary of Diamond Industries, Mr. J. C. Atkinson, told the North Western Licensing Authority that he hoped to apply for a substantive B licence after the short-term licence had expired in three months' time.
