• Dery prices could rise by as much as lp per litre by the end of the week because of the Soviet crisis, says fuel analyst Oil Price Assessment.
But the five biggest oil companies were holding back from any increase in their diesel prices as Commercial Motor went to press.
OPA says it is too early to assess prices accurately from market movements the first day after President Gorbachev's ousting, when dery spot prices rose by 1.4p per litre.
