A BID to introduce a lorry bar Alston, Cumbria, has failed, county councillors have agri it would be too expensive to grade the alternative route.
Alston Moor Parish Council quested that heavy vehic travelling west from Weard on the A689 should be diver from the town centre via Blac using the B6294.
The council claims that cow uous heavy traffic damag buildings on the main stre which is a conservation area. E county surveyor John Davis told Cumbria's highway si committee that it would c( £200,000 to bring the B6294 to a suitable standard.
Re-routing would more th double hauliers' journ. distances, and the committ agreed that the proposal was r justified.
