PUR NEW body options – tipr truck, dropside truck, Luton n and milk float – are now ailable on the Mitsubishi L300 assis cab, writes MIKE .ITHERFORD.

All the body options are anufactured by Vaile and Co )orset) Ltd, and the new ohicles will be available roughout the 270-strong Colt )aler network in Britain. As well ; the vehcile manufacturer's arranty, Valle offers a separate ?-month warranty. In the event warranty claims to Vaile, reairs can be undertaken by local odybuilders and do not ocessarily have to be returned 'Dorset.

The L300 tipper has a payload I approximately 15cwt, volume opacity of 1.65cum, and a maxiaim tipping angle of 43°. The scissor"-type tipping gear is lectro-hydraulically operated from a control in the driver's cab and the dropside truck can also be converted into a platform truck, with a floor area of 4.43sqm and a loading height of 32in. Payload is 17cwt.

The Luton van is constructed of "flat" type aluminium panelling and also has a loading height of 32in. Capacity is 10cum— plus the capacity in the over-cab location. Its rear entrance is enclosed with a full height alloy roller shutter with hasp and staple.

Finally, the L300 milk float can carry up to 84 crates on three levels, has a low loading height, and interior light in the canopy roof. The float is made from extended aluminium planking for the floor, 12 gauge framed alloy sheeting for the bulkhead, and a one-piece alloy unit for the roof. Colt is confident that the L300's engine will stand up well to the stop/start movement of such a vehicle.

Recommended price for the tipper is £6,184, compared with £5,129 for the dropside truck, both of which are constructed from high-quality aluminium extrusions. The Luton van sells for £5,846, the milk float at £5,304.

Prices include delivery, vat, seat belts, and fitted number plates (UK mainland only), but exclude vehicIe excise duty.

In CM's L300 panel van road test (March 14), we recorded overall fuel consumption figures (laden) of 9.54 lit/1 0 Okm (29.6mpg). Like the panel van, the new L300 versions are fitted with push-button radio as standard, brake failure and handbrake indicator lights, two-speed wiper control and wash/wipe system, and side-window demisters.
