• Glasgow City Transport was being "absolutely forced by increases in wages to raise bus and Underground fares", stated Bailie Graham Spence, convenor of Glasgow municipal transport committee, at its latest meeting. The department, which had a deficit of £102.000 last year, faced an estimated loss of £276,000 in 1969/70, bringing the accumulated deficit to £1,669,000, the committee was told.

A sub-committee has been appointed to consider proposals for higher fares put forward by the undertakings general manager, Mr. E. R. L. Fitzpayne. The suggested fare structure for buses is 6d, is and 1s 6d, in place of the present 5d, 10d and 1s 3d. Concessionary fares would be raised from 2d to 3d.
