• A C6m expansion scheme to increase output of diesel engines for the home and overseas markets is announced by the Perkins Engines Group. The scheme is currently underway and will enable production of the 4.236 and 6.354 diesel engines to be substantially increased. It will become effective in the autumn of 1970.
A further extension of the company's 1,300,000 so.ft. plant at Eastfield, Peterborough, will be included in the scheme. A new administration and engineering building covering over 107,000 sq.ft. was recently completed.
To satisfy increased world demand for the company's engines, Perkins is accelerating its dispatch of units through a Elm marshalling, storage and dispatch area which is capable of handling 1,400 units a day. Linked to the production lines in the two Eastfield factories by overhead conveyor systems, the fully automatic push-button-operated system increases the rate at which engines are transferred from the production department to the enginedispatch area.
