• It is understood that following a slow start there has been an increase in applications for the heavy goods vehicle driving test. Block applications are being received at test stations from companies and group training centres. A spokesman for the Ministry of Transport told CM this week that more and more people were applying for the test rather than claiming exemption. "It appears". he said, "that there is a genuine desire to prove that one can do the job rather than treat the licence as a piece of paper."
