CONTRACTS :totalling nearly Wm. for the fit'st two stages of die construction of the Forth road bridge were signed last Friday. Work will_ start within

a fortnight. The tenders have to be approved by the Secretary of State for Scotland.

The first stage comprises the construction of the foundations, anchorages of the main cables of the suspension bridge. and the tvim sick towers, at a cost of £2.25m. This will be followed by the construction of the bridge itself, at a cost of £8.66m.
