Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH the object of increasing the W carrying capacity.of vehicles during the present. emergency, the Minister of War Transport proposes to amend the regulations dealing with vehicles drawing trailers as follow:—

(1) All vehicles up to 30 ft. in length will be permitted to draw trailers; the present limit is 26 ft. This will be subject to the requirement that the combination of vehicle, drawbar and trailer, does not exceed 60 ft., and the concession will not apply to articulated vehicles.

(2) The maximum laden weight of the combination of .vehicle and trailer will be 32 tons, as compared with the 22 tons now permitted, but -the trailer must be equipped with power-assisted brakds which can he operated by the

driver of the towing vehicle, These brakes mast not be of a type rendered ineffective when the engine stops, whilst a warning device will be necessary to warn the driver of any impending failure in the vacuum or pressure system.

These concessions are being made on the advice of the Inland Transport War Council, and the present intention is to discontinue them at the end of tile war, " The Commercial Motor" has been putting up a strong fight for concessions to assist the war-time use of the trailer, and has made personal representations to the Ministry of t War Transport on this matter.
