The report in your April 8 issue on the Committee Stage of the Transport (Financial Provisions) Bill is not only extremely misleading but inaccurate.

The Bill is not to cover NFC losses in France and Germany but to give the Secretary of State for Transport powers to make grants to the Corporation and to British Railways; of itself it makes no grants and certainly, in relation to NFC, apportions no part of any grants to specific uses, as your report suggests.

The fact is, the written proceedings of the Committee on March 29 make clear, that the Opposition put down an amendment to the Bill to exclude certain overseas items from any grants, and this amendment was defeated in Committee by 7 votes to 6. Your report omitted to mention this rather important fact.
