Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NATIONAL Travel (North East) Ltd's plans to improve day excursion and short duration tour facilities in West Yorkshire have run into opposition over the proposed offer of one, two and three day trips to the Continent.

It was sought to offer direct facilities from Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Elland, Featherstone, Castleford, Pontefract, Wakefield, and Normanton.

Objections to the day excursions proposals and to the offer of British mini-tours were withdrawn, following negotiations, but Wallace Arnold Tours Ltd and Heaps Tours Ltd maintained their objections to the Continental part..

Giving evidence before the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, at Leeds, Peter Green, National Travel's (North East) operations manager central, said Continental mini-tours were already offered by National in West Yorkshire through feeder services from Leeds, Dewsbury and Huddersfield, through to Sheffield.

These applications were designed to obviate passengers having to travel to these three points.

Mr Green said Wallace Arnold offered mini-tours from West Yorkshire but he maintained they were not in competition in the main because the catchment area tended to be limited for such tours.

He disagreed that there would be any competition with longer duration extended tours to the same destinations.

They were seeking to serve parts of West Yorkshire which at the present time had no facilities of their own.

The Commissioners adjourned the hearing until April 26, when it is expected that public evidence in support of the applications will be heard.
