So The British Petroleum Company at their Sunbury engine research station have devised an engine test which provides more rigorous start and stop. running conditions than any vehicle would experience in normal use. The engine is run on load untilthot, then stopped and rapidly cooled by passing cold water through its cooling system. This cycle is repeated continuously over a long period. Only an engine oil with high resistance to acid and sludge formation could protect the engine under these conditions.
