• An Eye, Suffolk, operator who failed to appear at a Section 69 inquiry had his licence curtailed from 13 vehicles and four trailers to three vehicles and three trailers. In addition, the Eastern deputy LA, Mr Gerald Kidner, suspended one of the remaining vehicles for three months and ordered an inspection of the vehicles, records and premises in six months' time.

Mr Kidner heard evidence from a vehicle examiner, Mr Russel Goodwin, who said he had visited the premises of F. J. Cracknell on three occasions since 1970. There had always been difficulty in getting vehicles for inspection and he could not be sure how many vehicles were actually operated although the licence showed nine to be specified. Mr CrackneU had told Mr Goodwin that the vehicles were maintained on the premises but at no time had Mr Goodwin been shown proper records, neither had he found any maintenance staff. There was plenty of covered hardstanding but little in the way of equipment.

Saying that Mr Cracknell had been properly made aware of the hearing and had had an opportunity to appear, Mr Kidner made his curtailment order.
