fifty years ago, has gone into voluntary liquidation. S. Harfoot and Sons Ltd, who employ a staff of fifty, was started by Donald Harfoot's grandfather and had at one time premises at Castleland Street, Cardiff Road, Barry and a large depot at Penarth Road, Cardiff.
Donald Harfoot who ran the business with his cousin Tony Harfoot said they made this decision "with great reluctance."
He said that the present situation had been with the company for the past two years since the building industry began to decline so steeply. "With the latest cuts announced at the end of 1976 the decline is going to be even greater and we couldn't gamble any more," he said.
The bulk of the companies' vehicles and the main customers have been taken over by W. T. Davies (Transport) Ltd, Ely, and Tony Harfoot has been given the position of transport manager with the company.
