Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A truck driver had a lucky escape when he was shot at by another motorist. Chris Tindall reports.

A TRUCK DRIVER was left shaken but unhurt following a gun attack by a van driver last week. Now police are asking for witnesses to come forward after the number plate the driver took down turned out to be false.

The incident happened at 7.25pm on 11 September as Eric Walker was driving a truck for Lockerbie-based Stephen Montgomery Transport (SMT) southbound on the Al. He was just north of Blyth Services when a man driving a white Transit van in the next lane fired at him.

Two shots went above the driver's window and a third into the corner of the cab. Walker was left unhurt, hut shaken. Stephen Montgomery reports that he was told by police the weapon used in the attack was a gas-injection ballbearing handgun.

"It was possible the gunman was trying to get him into the services, or away from the road," Montgomery adds."He pulled over and went straight into the services. All he had on was a load of water. I've told him to take a week off."

A police examination of Montgomery's Scania tractor unit showed that damage around the driver's door was consistent with shots from a BB gun or a small calibre air weapon.

Investigating officer PC James Pickersgill says: -The lorry driver managed to take down the Transit's registration number — KPO2 AGM. We believe this is a false plate and would ask anyone who recognises it to call us.

"It is unclear whether this is a deliberate attack, but it appears to be an isolated incident."
