& L Garages and its sales manager, Graham Precious, face charges alleging that they deliberately under-declared the unladen weight of vehicles.
The company, of Brigg Road, Scunthorpe, and Precious, of 21 Church Avenue, Humberstone, near Grimsby, are each accused of eight offences of making false declarations in connection with applications for vehicle excise licences in that they declared a lower than actual unladen weight, and of one offence of cheating the Queen and the public revenue between 18 June 1983 and 2 September 1988.
Barton on Humber Magistrates adjourned the case until November, when they will consider whether there is enough evidence to take the defendants before the Crown Court.
