• TNT Contract Distribution has won its third drinks industry contract in a multi-million pound deal with the Peter Dominic Group, the off-licence chain owned by Grand Metropolitan.
TNT will take on warehousing, tele-sales, picking orders and delivery to 700 retail outlets nationwide and will operate from a 14,000m2 warehouse in Swindon, says Paul Carvell, general manager sales and marketing, who announced the contract at the Distribution '89 exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham.
Carvell says the contract is worth "between £5m and £10m" and involves a 24-hour service, known as -Day OneDay Two." The service will allow Dominic Group outlets (which includes Peter Dominic, the Bottoms Up Wine Super Stores and Hunter and Oliver) to place orders one day and
take delivery the next.
Carvell also announced a new contract, starting in November, with MAN trucks involving the handling of all MAN stock order parts, previously delivered through sister division TNT Overnite.
The new operation involves delivery of stock orders to 45 MAN dealers nationwide by a liveried fleet.
Carvell says TNT Contract Distribution will use three drawbar vehicles, two demountable drawbar trailers and four demountable curtainsiders out of MAN's Swindon headquarters.
TNT Contract Distribution will have a turnover of more than £45m this year, with a further eight contracts in the automotive, brewing, home delivery and public service sectors about to come on line. Carvell forecasts a turnover of more than £100m by 1990/91.
