ERSEYSIDE County Council's Highways and Tunnels Cornttee has decided that a start should be made this year on the st phase of the controversial Liverpool inner ring road.
The first phase, for which approval has just been given, will st £2,9m, and will run along the waterfront from the Strand to apping. It could be completed by the summer of 1981.
Mere is still strong opposition to the scheme and the Liverol Anti-Ring Road Committee in a statement called for the andonment of the scheme and demanded that no public funds ould be made available for it.
"We deplore the savage destruction of the inner city that such ;cheme would entail," they said.
