TO COMPLY with EEC directive 76/114/EEC, from October 1 all new cars and light passenger vehicles will have to be fitted with a manufacturer's plate giving details identifying the general characteristics of the vehicles.

The new plates will replace present chassis and Commission number plates. The plates will carry the name of the manufacturer, the EEC type approval number of the vehicle, the vehicle identification number, the maximum permitted laden weight and the maximum permitted axle weight.
