Appleyard of Leeds, Ltd., North Street, Leeds, 7 E'-OYING the Morris Ja chassis and cab, w€H1 the maker's doors and passen ger sear. i he Appleyard sitting-case ambulance provides accommodation for 10 patients. This takes the form of a full-width bench seat backing against the bulkhead: a two-seater facing forward on the offside, a single similar seat on the nearside, and two bench seats facing inwards at the rear. Upholstery is in latex foam rubber, trimmed with Vynide. The roof is glass-fibre panelled and internally the sides are covered in cream hardboard tia to the waistline with Vynidefinished hardhoard above that level.

The body framing is hardwood with 18gauge half-hard aluminium exterior panelling. At the rear is a single door fitted with a fixed window, and beneath is a folding step.

EASY riding features in the Dennis AV6 ambulance include semi-elliptic low-rate leaf springs, used in conjunction with special rubber aids to ensure a progressive rate suspension. This design includes a modern styled glass-Fibre front with one-piece windscreen and paired headlamps. The chassis has been arranged to give a low floor level and to provide an easy steering angle; the power unit is a four-cylinder oil engine of

58 blip. ith a pressurized cooling system. Interior arrangements provide for a single stretcher being carried on one side and sitting patients on a bench seat at the other.

IN order to give additional working height, a high-level glass-fibre roof has been incorporated by Kennings in their ambulance which otherwise employs the Morris J2 standard van chassis and body. At the rear. there are double doors in place of the normal single. Bench seats each side provide for 10 sitting cases, hut emergency stretcher gear is available and accommodatiori for invalid chairs can be arranged if necepary.

LOMAS Stand 107 Herbert Lomas, Ltd., Handforth, 'Cheshire

FOUR ambulances to be seen on the Lomas stand include an interesting design mounted on El Commer Walk-Thru chassis. This particular model is destined for Somerset, where there is considerable movement of sitting patients between hospitals, and has been designed to be dual-functional. In the main saloon there is provision for the carriage of two or four stretchers whilst at the front, a separate specially planned sitting case compartment accommodates four seated passengers. Assisted loading gear is fitted for stretcher handling.

Carried on an Austin LD0.5 chassis is a variable purpose body that cart he arranged for 10 sitting or two stretcher cases, or for one stretcher and five sitting eases. With the convertible designs, the changeover from sitting to stretcher operation is practically instantaneous, An important feature of this body is the provision of access between saloon and cab by means of a sliding door.

Other Lomas exhibits are k3 junior-type ambulance, 011 a 15-cwt. Ford chassis and a fully equipped model on the Bedford J-type with modified springing for ambulance use.

WADHAM Stand 122 Wadham.Bros. (Coachhuilders), Ltd., . London Rd., Waterloosille, Hants

TWO ambulances on Morris chassis are among the exhibits of Wadham Bros. (Coachbuilders), Ltd. A prototype, on the LD5 for Hampshire County Council, includes several new features. Bodywork is of composite construction with glass-fibre roof. doors, wheel arches and front end. The stretcher loading gear incorporates an improved loading tray, foam bed, alloy stretcher with sprung wheels, one-hand operation for the head-rest and an endelevation device. Heaters for mains and battery operation are fitted, as are dividing curtains, dual blood-plasma bottle holders and oxygen bottle retainer. Stowahfc fourberth conversion sets are available.

Destined for Leicester there is a Morris EG sitting case ambulance with bodywork of structural plastic. Accommodation includes forward-facing and longitudinal seating with provision for stretcher carriage.
