THREE exam w ples of the ne range of coach bodywork introduced by Duple are displayed. The distinctive styling introduced on the Bella Vista 29-seater a year ago is now extended to all models of the standard 1963 range from the Hendon factory. The largest model is the Vega Major 36-ft.-long 52-seater on the new Bedford VAL twinsteering chassis. The Commodore is a 31-ft. 10-in.-long body intended for 'underfloorengined chassis, the example shown being on A.E.C. Reliance chassis and arranged to seat 45 passengers. The Bella Vega is the latest coach body for the Bedford SB. accom modating 41 passengers within a length of 30 ft. 4 in. The width in all three eses is 8 ft. 21 in. Composite construction is employed.

Particular emphasis is being laid on ventilation and heating arrangements. The rear portion of each version of the new bodywork incorporates fixed windows and forced ventilation. On the example of the Bella Vega exhibited, the Smith's refrigerated ventilation system is incorporated as an indication of possible future equipment.

DUPLE (MIDLAND) Stand 45 Duple Motor Bodies (Midland), Ltd., cio Duple Motor Bodies, Ltd., Edgware Road, The Hyde, Hendon, London, N.W.9

EXPORT bodywork is predominant on this stand although the smallest exhibit, a 19-seat service coach on Bedford J2 chassis modified to forward-control, is well known in this country. The particular example of the latter exhibited is for British European Airways and is to he used in Jersey. A 36-seat service bus on Thames Trader chassis is for service in Goa. It is 30 ft. long and has two doorways with manually-operated jack-knife doors. A 29-seater bus for the Texaco concern, for service in Trinidad, is based on a Bedford VAS2 petrol-engined chassis. It is 8 ft. wide, whereas the. other Duple (Midland) exhibits are 7 ft. 6 in. All three are of metal-framed construction.

DUPLE (NORTHERN) Stand 36 Duple Motor Bodies (Northern), Ltd., Vicarage Lane, Blackpool, Lance

THE range of coachwork displayed by Duple (Northern) includes two completely new models and a development of the Duple Continental, which has been in production at Blackpool since its introduction just Under a year ago. This concern, formerly H. V. Burlingham, Ltd., changed its title earlier in the year. The metal-framed 3641.-long Alpine Continental has a forced ventilation system, larger fixed windows than the standard Continental and is exhibited on A.E.C. Reliance chassis. The new Firefly 30-ft. 4-in.-long body for forward-engined chassis and Dragonfly 36-ft.-long design for underfloor-engined models incorporate composite construction and are of similar general appearance. They are shown on Thames Trader and Leyland Leopard chassis respectively.

HARRINGTON Stand 33 Thomas Harrington, Ltd., Sackville Works, Old Shoreham Road, Hove 4, Sussex

A NEW 36-ft. metal-framed coach follow-Z-1 ing on the successful pattern of the previous Cavalier model is the Grenadier 36. The new version incorporates a forced ventilation system and the side windows, which are lengthened, are accordingly fixed. The example shown is a 49-seater based on Leyland Leopard chassis. The Crusader Mk. III is the latest version of the exhibitor's 30-ft. by 8-ft. coachwork for front-engined chassis. It also has longer side windows and is displayed as a 4I-seater based on Thames Trader p.s.v. chassis, The smallest exhibit on the Harrington stand is the Commer 1500 series I2-seater p.s.v. conversion. This complies with P.S.V. Regulations and a notable feature is the provision of luggage accommodation in the glass-fibre roof unit.

KENEX Stand 144 Kenex Coachwork, Ltd., Barwick Road, Dover. Kent

THE main exhibit on this stand, which is on the first floor, is the Thames-Kenex 25-seater coach. Based on the Thames Trader 3-ton low-loader chassis with 4D diesel engine, it is of metal-framed construction. A recent development is the provision of a sliding entrance door as standard equipment. The remaining exhibits are examples of the passenger-carrying conversions of vans in the 10-15-cwt, class with which the Kenex concern has been largely associated in recent years. A newcomer to this range is the Standard 15-cwt. model shown in Kenebrake Yeoman form, with upholstered forwardfacing seats and wooden slatted longitudinal seats at the rear. The Morris 32 Kenecoach p.s.v. for 12 fare-paying passengers. Austin 34 Kenebrake, Thames Kenebrake and Bedford CAL Kenebrake Super, which are also displayed, are all established models from this company.

MARSHALL Stand 32 Marshal's Flying School, Ltd., Airport Works, Newmarket Road, Cambridge

A36-FT, by 8-FT. 21-IN. single-deck bus body on Leyland Leopard chassis is for the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co., Ltd. The exhibit is the first to have the

new front-end design for this type of vehicle, standardized by the B.E.T. Federation, incorporating wrap-round windscreens. Of steel-framed construction, the bodywork is largely panelled in aluminium, but the front and rear ends are glass-fibre mouldings. Seats are provided for 54 passengers and the front-entrance doors are of the glider type, fully, glazed and electrically operated. Interior lighting is by the use of fluorescent tubes.

MARTIN WALTER Stand 62 Martin Walter, Ltd., 145-147 Sandgate Road, Folkestone .

A NEW model is the Martin Walter LI Volkswagen personnel carrier. Hinged double doors are provided on each side of the body, in addition to the cab doors. A total of 12 seats, including that for the driver, are provided. The Workobus is a well-established product, but this is the first time that the version based on an Austin 34 model has been shown at Earls Court. Also seating 12 including the driver, it is intended for transporting workpeopie and equipment to construction sites and similar duties. The other passenger exhibits are the Thames Utilabus, which complies with P.S.V. Regulations and accommodates 11 passengers, and the Bedford CAL which is shown in the Utilabrake form, designed primarily as a maid-of-all-work vehicle for people living in the country.

METROPOL1TAN-CAMMELL Stand 42 Metropolitan-Cammell Carriage and Wagon Co., Ltd., SIdtley, Birmingham, 8

AN example of 77-seat normal height double-deck bodywork on Leyland Atlanteatt rear-engiried chassis is displayed on this stand. Generally of the standard M.C.W. design for this model, it has been built for Saiford City Transport and incorporates their requirements in fittings and equipment. A Leyland-M.C.W. Olympic Series II, model EL45/13/40, single-deck cityservice bus is for Compania Uruguaya de Transportes Colectivos S.A., Montevideo. This integral-construction vehicle measures 36 ft. 2+ in. overall. It is arranged to seat 40 passengers and provision is made for a further large number to stand. A front entrance and centre exit is provided, the latter being wider than those of LeylandM.C.W. buses at present in service in the Uruguayan capital.

This third exhibit is a product of a new M.C.W. venture, the manufacture of coach bodies for Bedford chassis. The example shown is the Amethyst design, on an SB3 petrol-erigined model measuring 30 ft. long and 8 ft. 21 in. wide. As with the other exhibits, steel-framed construction is used. Exterior panelling is largely of aluminium, glass-fibre mouldings being used at front and rear. The styling makes use of .a pro, flounced " peak " over the windscreen.'

A PAIR of 36 ft. by 8 ft. 21 in, single1-1 deckers of basically similar design, and in both cases on Leyland Leopard chassis, form the display on this stand. Of metalframed construction, they are in express coach and bus form respectively. The coach is for the Yorkshire Traction Co., Ltd., and has Duple CiA.211 coach seating for 47 passengers. A large luggage locker is incorporated at the rear. The 54-seat bus version of similar general design is for the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd. Fluorescent lighting for the interior and also for the destination box is provided on both the vehicles shown on this stand.

YEATES Stand -13 W. S. Yeales, Ltd., Derby Road, Loughborough, Leics

A LL three of the Yeates exhibits are /1 examples of the Fiesta Continental design in its latest form. The largest is built to 36 ft. by 8 ft. 21 in. dimensions and is based on an A.E.C. Reliance chassis. It seats 51 passengers and has a front entrance. Intermediate in size, with a length of 31 ft. 2 in. and a seating capacity of 44 is the Bedford SI35 version. The chassis of this is modified by Yeates, the front axle being set back so as to allow a front-entrance layout to be adopted. The shortest version shown is the Thames Trader measuring 30 ft. overall, which is a 41-seater with entrance immediately behind the front wheels. Construction of all three bodies is composite, using light alloy and timber framing. aluminium panels and glass-fibre front and
