Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ADVICE to employers who discovered inaccuracies in then drivers' log sheets was given by the Hull stipendiary magistrate last week, when Ideal Boilers and Radiators, Ltd., Hull. and 12 of their drivers, were summoned for offences in connection with hours and records,

Mr. R. E. Paterson, defending, said that the company carefully checked

drivers' records. What are they to do when they find a mistake? It would be wrong for the company to suggest that an inaccurately completed driving record should be altered so that it complies with the law. It would he hard on a man if, through his lack of clerical ability, he were to lose -a job as driver at which he was probably quite good," he stated.

The magistrate suggested that when an inaccuracy was discovered, an employer should attach a correctly filled form to the wrong one, with an explanation of what had been done.

The company was fined a total of £52 on 52 summonses. including, seven charges for using goods vehicles at excessive speeds. The drivers answered 31 charges and paid fines totalling £53.

Mr. E. Wurzal, prosecuting for the Yorkshire Licensing Authority, said that the cases were a sequel to the scrutiny of 3,400 records.
