ALICENCE to oparate a direct service from Sheldon to Castle Bromwich for the benefit of employees of Fisher and Ludlow, Ltd., was granted to Messrs. F. G. Miller by the West Midland Licensing Authority, despite opposition by Birmingham Transport Department.

Mr. D. E. Skelding, for the applicant, stated that the Fisher and Ludlow workers who lived in Sheldon had to make a journey, by municipal services lasting 60-70 minutes, on three buses, to reach the factory. The distance from Sheldon to Castle Bromwich was six miles and it was stated that' the direct journey by 'Messrs. Miller's coach would take no more than half an hour.

Mr. C. Wade, assistant personnel manager of the factory, said that his. company was beset with labour troubles because of transport difficulties. Mr. T. Hayes, for the corporation, contended that existing services were adequate. The company had moved from the centre of the city and there was natural lesentment by the employees against the extra travelling time.
