IMPORTANT PROGRAMME FOR M.H.C.S.A. CONFERENCE

Well-known Personalities to Speak on Vital Subjects AN attractive programme has been arranged by the Motor Hirers and Coach Services Association for its National Conference, to be held at the Spanish Hall, Winter Gardens, Blackpool, on October 3-4, at 10 a.m.

On the first day, the conference chairman will be Councillor Clifford Thothas, vice-chairman of the Association, and the opening remarks will be made by the president, Mr. H. T. Rickards. Next, a resolution will be submitted by Mr. Aled E. Roberts and seconded by Mr. F. A. Flin, calling for the setting up of an independent appeal tribunal to hear and determihe passenger-transport appeals, in accordance with judicial practice. A discussion will follow.

Mr. S. D. Oddy, of the Croydon Association, will introduce a resolution urging that ininaediate steps be taken to remove the anomaly whereby railway companies are able to have re, strictions imposed upon road services, ivhereas there is no similar control over the railways. This resolution will be seconded by Mr. J. J. Berry, J.P., of the Newcastle Association. The development and co-ordination of the road transport industry will be dealt with by Councillor Thomas and Mr. J. Price.

At the second session, the conference chairman will be Major J. B. Elliott, chairman of the Association, and Mr. Rickards will introduce the Mayor of Blackpool, Alderman C. R. Tatham, J.P., who will extend to delegates an Official welcome on behalf of Blackpool Corperation. A discussion will be held on an address_ by Mr. H. Holdsworth, M.P., concerning the restriction of road transport in general and, passenger travel in particular.

.Councillor T. J. Parry Jones, of Carmarthen County Council, will speak on the subject of road development and safety, and will be followed by Messrs. V. McKeag, M.P., Raymond W. Birch and C. Y. Lloyd, who will deal with the administration of the Road Traffic Act, 1830.e.: Finally, Mr. 1-1. Barnes will deriver an address on Problems 'and Troubles"

On the social side, visits have been arranged for a limited number of delegates to Leyland Motors, Ltd., Leyland, or, alternatively,. a tour to Southport, at 3 p.m. each day. A tour to view the famous Blackpool illuminations will be available each evening at 8 p.m.
