Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A N ENTIRELY new type of combined motor plough and general-purpose tractor has recently been produced by Waller Tractors, Ltd., of 28, Hamilton Road, Boscombe, Hants. The machine is of the three-wheel type, with driving wheels 6 ft. 6 ins, in diameter, disposed practically in the middle and earkying nearly all the weight, the rear wheel only carrying sufficient load to balance the structure, A tractor built on these lines, will travel along a hillside and keep the line required, whereas a rear-wheel-driven machine will travel more or less according to the slope. There., are two hand steering wheels, one which operates the rear wheel and another which moves the tail part of the frame

to any required angle, so that the rear Wheel will track with either driving wheel or any positio4 between them. When ploughing, this allows the rear wheel to run in the last furrow or on the unploughed land, as desired. . This tractor is fitted with patent automatic self cleansing spuds, which, are instantly adjustable for grip (without stopping) from 0 to 44 ins. This -system is found to be a• great improvement on fixed or bolted-on spuds ; it saves much time and ensures a better grip by reason of the spuds being clean every time they enter the earth. These spuds are at rest concentric with the wheel when not required. For ploughing, the machine can be used

either as a one or two way plough, either turning at headlands or not, as desired. If apt so desired, the left-hand plough is quickly detached. The ploughs .e..re lifted out of and lowered into work by a patented arrangement which leaves the furrows at eaeh end quite even, like a horse plough. It is an excellent cross-country and road tractor, having all three wheels sprung, and can be coupled to any vehicle either from the axle or at rear wheel end., as, being fitted with four speeds each way, the direction of travel makes no difference in the control.

A pulley 2 ft. in diameter is provided for threshing, etc, being driven through the gears, giving the various speeds necessary in either direction for chaff. cutting, pulping, etc., thus doing away with the necessity for having an extra friction clutch or using a cross belt.

The power unit is a high-class four-cylinder engine of 40 b.h.p:, equipped with governors, starting on petrol and then working on paraffin. The inventor has kept in view the necessity of a reliable and durable machine that will do all-round farm work at a cost much below that of horse labour. Only one man is required to operate the Machine.

To reach this stage of perfection, many years of experimental work have been carried out, as it has been the intention that a tractor should not be put on the market until it wasreliable and a paying investment for the purchaser. All parts of this tractor are made to limits, so that replacements can be obtained at short notice by quoting number of part. The material and workmanship are of the highest grade throughout, and we understand that the price is reasonable.
