THE Ministry of Technology is considering
with the motor manufacturing industry ways in which further improvements in production methods and more co-operative research and development can be achieved.
Mr. Peter Shore, the Parliamentary Secretary, said this in the Commons after he had been asked what initiatives the Minister was taking to promote efficiency in the commercial vehicle industry.
Mr. Shore noted that the British commercial vehicle industry held the biggest share of the world market, but when his questioner Mr. Tam Dalyell (Labour, West Lothian) suggested seasonal variations in purchase tax and hire purchase to level up demand for vehicles, Shore said that question should be addresser the Chancellor.
Sir Ian Orr-Ewing (Tory, Hendon No asked when the Ministry of Technology taken over responsibility for the wellbeing the commercial vehicle industry. If Mr. Sh had these responsibilities would he consi reinstating the investment allowance as be the best way to help industry in general.
