Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Placed in a simple farm trailer, the collapsible milk container is held steady by ropes or netting which also eliminate surge.

EIGHTY dairy farmers in Cumberland, Derbyshire and Wiltshire are taking part in experiments this winter with newly developed 150 and 300 gal. emergency milk containers. They will be used on farms with bulk collection vats when blizzards or icy conditions make access for road tankers impossible.

Farm vehicles can often get through these conditions and the collapsible container, made of tough polythene, is designed for carrying on a trailer, perhaps across fields, to a point accessible to the collection tanker. If roads are temporarily impassable even for farm vehicles, the container can be used to store milk on the farm to supplement bulk vat capacity.

Like a large plastic bag the container is placed flat in a trailer and filled straight from the farm vat using the normal pipeline system milk pump. Collection tankers are fitted with special adaptors to empty the containers. Cumberland, Derbyshire and Wiltshire have been selected for the trial as areas where the most severe bulk Collection conditions are experienced.

The Board has also made its usual plans for emergency collection of milk in the winter. Parish representatives have been appointed to report road conditions to hauliers and MMB offices. And arrangements have been made with highway authorities for priority clearance of main milk collection routes.
