THE first of five Scammell Routeman .I. eight-wheeled tankers — the first tankers the company has operated—went into service on Monday with George Ewer and Co., Ltd., Stamford Hill, London, N.16. George Ewer is primarily a coach-operating concern, although it has always had a haulage department. News of the tanker innovation was given in The Commer(ial Motor, of September 2.
All the five Ewer Scammells will be on contract to a leading oil company, but will be painted in the Ewer livery of grey and green and will operate under the company's fleet name of "GreyGreen."
The Scammells have Gardner 6LX engines, air-operated eight-wheel brakes, Scamrnell plastics cabs and two-compartment, 3,600-gal. tanks.
