Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

EADOWS oil engines are now being

fitted in Guy chassis. The Jets-Tug Mark If 3-ion tractor also has a new engine—the Austin MO unit These :Ire some of the developments which will be seen at the Scottish Show in Glasgow next month. Several makers will be introducing new models there.

Two of the Guy vehicles to be exhibited by the Universal Garage (Glasgow), Ltd., will be powered by ‘teadows oil engines. The Big Otter 8-ton 15-ft. 9-in.-wheelbase chassis, which was introduced. with a Gardner 4LW engine at last year's Earls Court Show, is now fitted with a Meadows 4DC-330 51-litre unit. This has a maximum power output of 85 b.h.p. at 2.200 r.p.m. and develops 230 lb.-ft. torque at 1.350 r.p.m.

As used in the Big Otter chassis the engine has a 13-in.-diameter single-dryplate clutch which takes the drive to a live-speed gearbox. The chassis has in air-hydraulic -braking system and 9.00--20-in. (12-ply) tyres are fitted to all wheels.

130 b.h.p. from Invincible

The other Meadows-erigineci exhibit will be an Invincible heavy-duty chassis. The engine is the 6DC-630 1035-litre unit, which has a maximum power rating of 130 b.h.p. at 1,900 r.p.m., with a torque of 420 lb.-ft. at 1,000 r.p.m. Another Invincible chassis will be shown with a Gardner 6LW oil engine.

A Guy lightweight heavy-duty underlloor-cngined chassis, powered by a Gardner 6 HLW engine, will be shown is a 44-scat coach with a Burlingham body. Another passenger exhibit will be a lightweight double-decker chassis as ordered by Edinburgh Transport Department. This has a 6LW engine, four-speed constant-mesh gearbox and triple vacuum-servo braking.

Previous models of the Jen-Tug, made by Jensen Motors, Ltd., West Bromwich, have employed the Austin A40 engine, but the new A50 fourcylindered o.h.v. 1,5-litre engine is now being employed.

The engine has a power output of 50 b.h.p. when running at 4,400 r.p.m.. with a maximum torque rating of 70 lb.-ft. at 2,100 r.p.m. The compression ratio is 7.2 to 1.

An 8-i n.-di am eter single-dry-plate clutch. hydraulically operated, is coupled to an Austin G.V.5 four-speed gearbox. This box, which gives ratios of 3.95, 2.403, 1.490 and -1 to 1, has synchromesh engagement for the three higher ratios. The worm-drive rear axle has an 11.66-to-1 final drive, and the rear wheels have 9.25-I3-in. (8-ply) tyres. A gain of first-gear tractive effort of 395 lb. over the former model is claimed.

The new engine and gearbox unit is not interchangeable with the A40 assembly, because of the additional overall length, For this reason the main-frame centre channel has been moved 3 in. forward and the sub-frame has had to be lengthened by the same amount.

• Another change in the chassis specification concerns the braking. The hydraulic master cylinder, which used to have an integral reservoir, now has a separate reservoir to facilitate topping-up the fluid level. The vehicle will be exhibited CM the stand of Moodie and Co., the Scottish Jensen distributors.
