WHAT is claimed to be the highestquality lubricating oil yet marketed under the brand name Mobiloil, was introduced last Friday by the Vacuum Oil Co„ Ltd. Designated Mobiloil Special, this new lubricant is of the multi-grade ,type, which means that the viscosity increases as the operating temperature rises, At 00 F. it has the viscosity equivalent to an S.A.E. IOW oil. Fluid resistance at this temperature is extremely low. As the engine temperature rises, so does the viscosity until at 210' F. the protection afforded is equivalent to that of an S.A.E. 30 grade, which would be normally used in summer.
At a temperature of about 300' F., such as prevails in bearings and pistonring zones, the viscosity rises to the equivalent of that of an S.A.E. 40 grade lubricant, providing maximum protection in those areas most needing it.
Not only is the new Mobiloil claimed to be more economical than a straight but it is said to promote fuel economy, more particularly in-vehicles used on door-to-door delivery services.
UNLICENSED MECHANIC DROVE BUS
" A N astounding slate of affairs" was
how Mr. F. J. W. Williams, Birkenhead Recorder, described the driving of a bus with -50 passengers on board by an unauthorized Mersey Tunnel mechanic to test the brakes.
Mr. Williams Was hearing an appeal against a conviction concerning inefficient brakes on a double-deck bus used in the Mersey Tunnel. A patrolman stated that he ordered the brakes to he tested. Normally, when this was done, a Tunnel policeman sat beside the driver, but in this case,, the driver refused to drive the bus. As it was a complicated vehicle, the mechanic was called.
The mechanic agreed that he did not hold a public service vehicle driving licence. The patrolman concurred that the correct procedure had nut been followed.
The appeal was allowed.
