ASTEP towardsthe development of grouping• amongst free hauliers in the West Riding was taken last week at a meeting of the Leeds sub-area committee of the Road Haulage Association, and representatives from other parts of the R.H.A. Yorkshire West Riding Area.
In accordance with the policy of co-operation between the R.H.A. and the National Association of Road Transport Groups, the meeting was addressed by two chief officials of the
latter organization -Mr. J. L. Watchurst, A.C.A., J.P., of Warrington, and Mr. H. J. Bedworth, of Birmingham. Mr. R. G. Crowther, M.I3.E., chairman of the R.H.A, West Riding Area, who is g member of the executive committee of the N.A.R.T.G., presided.
The cast tiut forward for grouping, particularly -baying, regard to the nationalization of long-distance,haulage, was well received, andthe meeting registered its support in principle of the formation of companies to operate , pools to receive any surplus traffic' from pool members and allocate it amongst fellow-members. It wes agreed that the next step was for West Riding subarea committees to consider the question of local action on these lines.
