moved its largest-ever load last weekend — a 638-tonne generator transformer from decommissioned Didcot power station, which was disconnected from the National Grid in March after 43 years' service. The generator, which was 4.87m wide, 4.98m high and 89.67m long, was transported on a girderframe, modular trailer built by manufacturer
Goldhofer. It required four trucks to make the move: two to push and two to pull. The Studley, Warwickshire-based firm began the journey on Friday, with the gargantuan load escorted by Wiltshire Police between junctions 14 and 18 of the M4 on Saturday, before reaching Avonmouth Docks in Bristol on Sunday around 6pm.
The company told CM it is set to move another identical generator later this month.
