Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by John Kendall • Irish specialist vehicle manufacturer Timoney Technology is set to launch a new 4x4 14-tonne GVW chassis. The vehicle is the latest in Timoney's High Mobility Truck range, first seen at Hanover last month. These models are the first Timoney products to be submitted for European type approval.

• All models in Timoney's High Mobility Truck range use Volvo cabs, engines and gearboxes.

• They are fitted with the Volvo FI,7/10/12 cab mounted on 8x8, 6x6 and 4x4 chassis.

• The 8x8s use the 12litre Volvo D12 414hp (309kW) engine driving through Volvo's own sixspeed automatic gearbox.

• The 6x6s are powered by Volvo's 10-litre 315hp (235kW) engine, driving through a four-speed Allison automatic; • The 4x4 is driven by Volvo's seven-litre 256hp (191kW) engine via an Allison five-speed auto.

Timoney fabricates the box-section chassis rails and fits its own all-independent suspension system to the Rockwellsourced axles. The axle housing and standard inboard disc brakes are fitted to the chassis, with suspension by long coil springs and double wishbones providing 350500mm of wheel movement.

Hub reduction is used to minimise wind-up in the axles.

All models use a Steyr two-speed transfer case. Cross-axle diff-locks are standard with optional inter-axle locks.

Timoney can provide as many steered axles as required: design weight for each is 10 tonnes giving a gross design weight of 40 tonnes on 8x8 models, limited to 32 tonnes for road use. The 14-tonne 4x4 will be fitted with 7.5-tonne axles.

Timoney off-road and emergency vehicles have been sold all round the world. According to business development manager Neil Murray, the type approved models all use Volvo running gear so they can be serviced at any Volvo or Volvo Penta service outlet around the world. Timoney trucks are in use in Ireland the US, UK and Africa with licensed building in Japan and the US. To date, vehicles have been designed for military use, fire fighting, refuse collection, mining and forestry.
