Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Essex driver James McGrath was crushed to death last week when a third lorry ploughed into the back of a crashed truck as he tried to free its trapped driver in blizzard conditions on the M6.

McGrath had rushed to the aid of a Safeway driver after he saw the truck collide with a parked livestock wagon carrying sheep on the southbound carriageway near Stafford in the early hours of 19 November. Canvey Island-based McGrath parked his truck on the snow-covered motorway's hard shoulder and rushed over to help the badly injured driver.

He died when an NDC Harris truck carrying whisky collided with the offside of the Safeway truck, badly injuring its driver, Nicholas Jones, from Acocks Green.

Many sheep were also killed in the incident, which caused 14-mile traffic jams in weather conditions which a Stafford fire brigade office who attended • the accident described as: "the worst I have ever seen".

Witnesses to the sequence of events which led up to the accidents should contact Stafford police on 01785 235045.
