• A international driver who got back into his cab and repeatedly drove after being disqualified, has been sent to prison for three months.
Dale Layton, of no fixed abode, admitted perverting the course of justice and driving while disqualified when he appeared at Canterbury Crown Court last week. He asked for a further 81 offences to be considered.
The court heard that when Layton was stopped driving in Kent on 21 August he gave the name of Loy and produced tachographs bearing the same name. But the police officer who had stopped him was not convinced and arrested him.
On 12 May. Layton was banned from driving for 12 months after being convicted of drink/driving.
Cairns Nelson, defending, said he had recently split up with his wife and faced huge debts. "He was faced with going under or keeping his head above water by flouting the law," he said.
