THE ROAD Transport Industry Training Board may be split in two.
The Board's months of doubt over its future ended finally on Monday this week, when Employment Secretary Norman Tebbitt announced that it was one of six he had decided to retain.
He said he would consider whether the RTITB should be split into two boards, one for road haulage and another for retail and repairs.
He noted that road passenger transport, warehousing, agricultural machinery, driving schools, and security transport would be taken out of scope of the board, but did not say when that would happen.
Like the other boards, the RTITB will be funded in future by the industry. Mr Tebbit decidec to extend exchequer support for operating costs until the end o1 March next year.
