Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd. is claimed to have been shocked when its application for fares increases was refused by the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners last week.

The chairman of the Commissioners. Maj.-Gen. Sir John Potter, said a modified application to bring in increased revenue of £46,000 instead of £64,000 would be "favourably considered".

Mr. P. R. English. of East Yorkshire Motor Services, said the amended proposals could be put into effect within 10 days if they were approved. December 7 was suggested.

The company sought the increases to cover the cost of an increased wages bill of £160,000 a year, said Mr, English. The company was seeking fare increases of about a penny in the shilling, with a maximum increase of one shilling. He added that there was a special proposal to put a 2d surcharge on children's tickets during peak periods.
