• The Minister of Transport will shortly be making proposals for amending the regulation which lays down that a vehicle drawing a trailer must have two men in the cab, writes our political correspondent. This is seen as a preliminary move towards making the drawbar combination an economic proposition.
The requirement for a second man, originally needed to operate a manual trailer brake, is now considered to be outdated—as it has been for many years in the view of transport operators.
This proposed change could create considerable new interest in the recently revealed possibility of 56-ton-gross combination weights.
