• Furious van owners are threatening to blockade the Severn Bridge over Bank Holiday Monday in protest against a 180% hike in tolls.
The tolls for vans shot up from £2 to £5.60 last month following the transfer of the bridge to the private Severn River Crossing Company. Leaflets have been distributed at the Aust services on the English side of the bridge urging van drivers to join the protest.
Newport MP Roy Hughes is supporting the move, but the bridge operator has warned that any action will lead to massive disruption for other users.
