• Owner-drivers trade association Transport Users Group is claiming a number of successes for its debt recovery service after it set up a blacklist of nonpayers last autumn (CM 14-20 Nov 1991).

TUG director Bob Sutton says the service is reclaiming thousands of pounds each month. Nearly £40,000 has been recovered for 100 hauliers since its inception. "I had my doubts whether the bad payers would take it seriously — at first they said, 'do your worst'," says Sutton.

A letter to bad payers from TUG threatening legal action unless payment is made within 14 days seems to have worked. The letter also says TUG "re serves the right" to inform its 1,300 member hauliers of a company's Inability to honour its debts".
