If you missed the pageant of motoring last week at Penshurst Place in Kent, you missed a treat. This is one of the highlights of the enthusiast's calendar; it is every transport museum rolled into one and rolled out to the beauty of the English countryside. It attracts thousands of spectators and has made £25,000 for the Cheshire Homes in its nine years at Penshurst. But, alas, no more.
Apparently, the locals like their village and their pub to themselves every Sunday. "We've been complaining for years," said one of them. He was a customer, not the landlord. So next year the pageant moves next door to Lingfield Racecourse, where the natives are reported to be friendly.
