GREATER Manchester Transport has stopped its loss of adult passengers by introducing a system of discounts for regular passengers which can save a passenger five per cent of his annual travel costs.
The Saverseven tickets are now selling at the rate of 35,000 per week and the Manchester authority now estimates that the system has brought an extra 1,400 passengers to buses from cars.
It was the fare increases of last August that began the big swing away from passenger transport to the private car. Now the saver tickets have been brought in and they can cut the average annual expenditure per passenger from 047 to E120 a year on transport.
