• The Northern area Traffic Commissioners, sitting in Durham, were told on Tuesday that a haulage vehicle failed its test because of the postal strike.
After hearing evidence that the fleet of Seaham Haulage Ltd, of Foundary Road, Seaham, was good and well maintained, the Commissioners decided to take no further action.
The Commissioners also decided to take no further action against Clarks Haulage, of Sunderland, after hearing that one of its vehicles had also failed the test.
Mr William Clark, head of the company, said after the inquiry that the vehicle submitted for the test was a spare one which had not been road taxed.
It had been standing in its depot and, as it was not in use, had not been subjected to the usual tests. "We are proud of our depot and proud of our vehicles", said Mr Clark,
