THE hearing of three applications by Gillard Tours Ltd.. Normington, was continued before the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners at Leeds on Wednesday. Submissions were made in respect of the new applications for tours to 26 destinations in England, Wales and Scotland, starting from Wakefield and picking up at Charlston, Normington. Featherstone and Pontefract.
For the three road objectors—Wallace Arnold Tours Ltd., Feather Bros. (Tours) Ltd. and Heaps Tours Ltd.—Mr. Alan Simpson said that in view of the application.being amended to tours of two days only, Feather Bros. and Heaps were not pursuing their objections. But these tours—if granted—could not pay their way without diverting passengers from Wallace Arnold.
Nine witnesses were called in support of the variation to add 5-, 7and 8-day tours to holiday resorts during the early and late seasons.
The chairman of the Commissioners referred to that part of the application seeking to delete the restriction to the conveyance of passengers of 60 years of age and over. The Commissioners, he said, did not hold with a restriction, imposed by the Minister in 1963, that they could not enforce and would delete it from any grant made.
The hearing continued today (Friday).
