Testing Lubricating evaluating the properties Oils of lubricants has been de veloped by the Vigzol concern. It possesses the good features of simplicity and direct results. A specially prepared pin is revolved at a fixed rate between Ulm hardened-steel chucks, the whole being immersed in the oil under test, The pressure is then increased gradually by the operator, and the torque is measured by a meter. The rate of increase is dependent, not only on the rising pressure, but on the quality of the oil, or, in other words, its resistance to the movement of the pin. The test is carried on until either seizure of the pin occurs or sufficient pressure has been reached to enable accurate comparisons to be made. Incidentally, this machine is at the disposal of operators who wish to experiment with the oils they are using.
