Mr. A. P. Donnison has left the Hopkinson Engine Co., Ltd., of Huddersfield.

I understand that Mr. Brown, formerly manager for Messrs. Foster, Lincoln, and later manager of the steamwagon department of Messrs. Robey, has left the latter company.

I rushed into a railway refreshment room last week, up in Yorkshire, for a " ten minutes' eye on the clock " luncheon, and to my surprise found Mr. W. J. McCormack, of Frorne tires, steadily plodding through a square meal. He told me, exultantly, that he had 25 minutes before his train went. Anyhow, I was interested and glad to know that trade is brisk with him.

Business continues good with the Berna people. I was talking with two of the principals, who have recently been on a business trip to Manchester, and they made some very satisfactory

contracts there. Sincere congratulations to my friend Mr. Eric W. Goslett, the manager of this company, on his recent marriage : he had to seize the chance afforded by the Easter holiday, and slipped off to his favourite Yarmouth, for a day or two, with hope in his heart, to complete the honeymoon when more time can he spared. I have met the lady at some of the Club's reliability trials, for both are keen motorists, and I wish them happiness. It is getting near the time for the Royal Ag-ricultural Show, which will be located this year at Newcastle-on-Tyne. No need to remind exhibitors how advisable it is to book rooms at hotels well in advance, because the influx of visitors is appalling. At Lincoln, last year, I had to pay 25s. for one night's accommodation at one of the smaller hotels, as my usual stopping place, the Saracen's Head, was full to bursting point. The food and service was shocking : I claim to possess simple and primitive tastes in the matter of food and lodging, because I was brought up

by hand, in a hardy, Nonconformist atmosphere; but this Lincoln hotel was the " limit " as the phrase goes. The moral is, then, book early ; further, you will probably be better off in private lodgings than in the hotels. Reverting to the show, I was interested to hear from an exhibitor of last year that their refreshment account at their stand included, in addition to the usual wines, spirits, and minerals, 70 gross of bottles of beer. It sounds like a Cup Day at the Crystal Palace, ancl it takes some realising—also, some drinking.

Writing of Lincoln reminds me that I had a very nice letter of thanks from Mr. H. Stott, of that to*ri; acknoiv:. !edging the receipt of the framed original sketch which he won in rily firSt puzzle competition. Considering the amount of interest that little competition created, and how much the Royal Show will occupy the steam if not the petrol mind shortly, another little contest has occurred to me. The attendance at the Royal Show is always carefully recorded and posted up in the show ground. To the one who guesses the nearest to the correct nurriber of visitors on the opening day, I will give an original motor sketch by Frank Patterson. It will be worthy to go in any drawing room. Next week, probably, I will give the opening day figures for the past few years, so that some idea may be obtained, and the last date for receipt. of estimates.
