Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

READ Adam Leonard's interview in CM (14 March). My company, Transervice Express Transport, is a proud member of The Pallet Network... but we refuse to do work that doesn't pay.

I agree completely with Adam: pallet rates have been cut and cut over the past few years by network members who chase volume for volume's sake, either because of pressure from their network (and let's be honest, some networks set minimum volumes and we know who they are) or because they see volume as some sort of gold medal or sign of success.

In the long run, the haulier doesn't win, and neither do the networks and firms that have failed in our sector (all for chasing volume at any cost).

The result is customers now expect us to match these rates. We've lost customers because they think we have been overcharging them. The problem is there are other operators out there who will match these rates because they are desperate. Well done Adam for being honest and speaking out. Very good article. Well done!
