FIRST report of the Greater Glasgow Transportation Study, proposing expenditure of £215m in 1978/ 85, says that the emphasis initially should be on public transport services rather than on highway construction. Work carried out by the GGTS since 1964 will continue under Strathclyde Regional Council.

Mr Andrew Davies, leader of the GGTS team said the proposals for 1978/ 80 would encourage development of the public transport system to the same level of implementation as highways had been achieving in the past few years.

"The overall target," said Mr Davies, "is to achieve an integrated transportation system for all types of trips the public want to make."
