Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A new type of rubber suspension is a feature of an insulated version of the modified Dumptrailer, short. and long-wheelbase models which were demonstrated last week by Neville Industries (Mansfield) Ltd., at Bradder Works, Mansfield (Commercial Motor, March 14). Of Neville design, the suspension is based on Metalastik chevron rubbers and, in contrast to a conventional leaf spring suspension, does not project beyond the rear of the tyres. This is of special advantage if the outfit is feeding a road-making machine in that it can back close up to the machine, or if the trailer is for example tipping material over a low wall. A rear floor line having an increased rake is also advantageous in these and other circumstances in that it affords a greater body/ground clearance.

Insulation is provided by a glass-fibre material having a density of 411b./cusft and the exterior is panelled in 22 s.w.g. mild steel. The vehicle is known as the Paver Trailer and six have been supplied to the AMASCO company for carrying hot asphalt. It costs £358 more than the equivalent standard Dumptrailer.

The first production model of the Neville Omni Trailer was also shown at the demonstration. This is of the conventional single-axle type based on a girder frame, and is designed to operate at 24 tons g.c.w., the plated gross weight of the trailer being 19.5 tons. With standard sides of 3ft 6in. the trailer has a capacity of 15 cu.yd.

An Edbro 5SC single-ram four-stage tipping gear gives a low overall height (which is of particular benefit for hopper loading), and the front of the body extends well forward of the fifth wheel, which gives a "4-1O-1O" load/axle distribution. Coupled to a Ford D1000 tractive unit, or its equivalent, the payload of the vehicle is in excess of 16 tons. While the Rubery Owen M22 suspension is fitted as standard, Neville rubber suspension may be specified. The three-line air-pressure braking system is equipped with a Clayton Dewandre load-sensing valve.
