Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWO new battery-electric fork-lift trucks have been added to the NR range of Ransomes, •Sims and Jefferies, Ltd., Orwell Works, Ipswich. The ,NR20 supersedes the FL20. The lifting capacity —2,000 lb. at 2-ft. load centre—is the same, but the newer type is smaller, lighter and cheaper. Lifting heights vary from 8-14 ft. The standard model has a maximum speed of 51m.p.h. when laden, but a variant with a top speed of 4 m.p.h. is offered for short-distance work.

The NR30 has self-aligning tilt cylinders to relieve the mast connecting rods of road shocks, and means for controlling the downward speed of the forks. Its load capacity is 3,000 lb. at 2-ft, load centre, and lifting heights from 5-14 ft. are available. Life of hydraulic seals has been lengthened by chroming the cylinders and cylinder rods.

Both the new models can accommodate a variety of lifting gear, such as squeeze-clamp attachments and crane jibs.

COMPENSATION HALVED

COMPENSATION payable to dis • -• possessed operators by the Ceylon Transport Board has been assessed at Rs.25m., half the amount that the _Government reckoned. Further deductions may be made, because the Minister of Transport refuses to compensate those operators alleged to have sabotaged their vehicles before nationalization.

Of 3,500 buses taken over by the Board. only 2,300 are roadworthy and the undertaking are desperate for new vehicles. Six hundred are on order and another 400 are required. Funds, however, are exhausted.
